WIND List Service

This is a closed, moderated email list service for WIND members only. Since its inception, it has grown to more than 1300 subscribers, who use it as a "group mailbox" to request information pertaining to their job search, and to share leads and information with others.

You may subscribe for free by emailing Fred Nothnagel, mentioning the branch of WIND you attended, and the date of your first WIND meeting. You must verify that your computer is equipped with up to date anti-virus protection before you can be approved to participate.

The WIND email list server serves as a 24/7 communication medium by which WIND members can:

  • query all other WIND members for advice on handling job seeking problems and situations,
  • request names of contacts at target companies at which they are seeking employment, and
  • post job leads or openings for the benefit of other WIND members.

The WIND email list is restricted to WIND members: information on subscribing to the list is given at the meeting that you first attend when joining WIND. (WIND members attending any WIND meeting may be subscribed to the WIND email list.) Email addresses of WIND members subscribed to the list are kept private to that list.

To unsubscribe from the WIND email list service, go to http://www.blu.org/mailman/listinfo/wind Enter your email address in the text field near the bottom of the page. You will be taken to a page where you can remove your email address from the distribution list.

Resource List

It can be critically important for you to obtain inside information about your target companies. WIND's Resource List provides you with access to that "straight skinny." Our database of WIND members and the companies they know well contains more than 1200 records.

Please add your input to this important information system by filling in your name, phone number and the names/locations of all companies you know well and turning in the form to the facilitator. This information will be added to our database, a hard copy of which is available at each meeting.

When you need information on a company, search the Resource List by company and contact those whose names appear. Please note that also in this information packet are names and phone numbers of WIND members who have copies of the Resource List at home and can be called between meetings to look up a contact for you.

Note: The people on the Resource List can't usually be used as referrals, since you don't know them, but may provide valuable information about your target companies.

Guerrilla Groups/Buddy Groups

A Guerrilla Group is a number of WIND members in the same employment field who meet regularly to network and share employment information in their field. (The name is derived from the "guerrilla marketing" movement, as adapted to the WIND context: cooperatively learning unconventional approaches to finding job openings and seeking employment.) Guerrilla groups usually meet at the various WIND meeting locations, often before the main meeting starts.

A Buddy Group is a number of WIND members, not necessarily in the same profession, who meet regularly to provide job-search and personal support for each other. Buddy groups are usually organized by geographic proximity and often select meeting places and times apart from any WIND meeting.

Spread the Word

Please tell other professionals you know about WIND. Offer them a WIND business card or brochure, available at all meetings.

Mention that you belong to WIND at the end of every job interview, conversation with a recruiter, or informational meeting and would appreciate that person or someone from his or her company sending job openings to us.

Please let us know when you accept new employment either by coming back to one last meeting and telling us in person, or e-mailing or calling the facilitator. In any case, be sure to let us know the details, so that your success can be helpful to others.

Let us know of openings at your new company. Some companies offer referral bonuses to employees, creating a terrific win-win-win situation!
